On Reading

Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. They are engines of change (as a poet said) lighthouses erected in the sea of time. They are companions, teachers, magicians, bankers of the treasures of the mind. Books are humanity in print.Barbara W. Tuchman

Literary Criticism

The written word has been my guiding light for over two decades. It has been my steadfast anchor and my companion in moments of triumph and mass inertia, during quiet, blissful moments as well as during moments of heaving despair. Hence, this corner will be devoted to my voracious hobby where I will share my thoughts about the books I happen to be reading, the titles that have tremendously changed my outlook on life, and the Great Classics that seduce, comfort, as well as devastate me.

Literary Movements

Among others, I love the Romantics (Byron and Shelley), Victorians (Eliot, Tennyson, Wilde, and the Rossettis), and their Russian counterparts (Gogol, Chekhov, Tolstoy and specially Dostoyevsky) while The Jewish Trio soothes my soul (Bellow, Malamud, and Roth).

In time, I will explore some of my favourite literary movements in detail and the contributions that writers, both notable and obscure, made in various moments in history and extrapolate their significance to our society.
